The black hair once tucked so neatly away, is set free
Alone with tuneless guitar she waits
Eyes set firmly on the closed door. Not the game.
She waits in anticipation but her face shows nothing.
Though severe black eyes may be windows, her mouth is fixed.
The Solider chose black, black like her hair, her eyes.
And though he says it is for luck and his hand moves,
he does not think of the game.
Eyes downcast and away.
His rich opponent watches seemingly carefree.
He wonders now why, clutching black pieces,
he is winning so easily.
The music stopped some time ago.
Hands removed from sword hilts.
A simple game it seemed to be.
Her earring catches the light.

Story Writing for BEGINNERS
-----Original Message-----
I want to write a story. I have a couple of ideas, but no idea what to do with them, or even how to begin! Help?!

So when you wanna write a story, where do you begin? With your PASSION!
Write what you KNOW & LOVE
What do you KNOW, really? What do you love to Do, to Study, to Think About, to Talk About...? Whether it's cave-diving, model trains, skate-boarding, sewing, horses, mythology, ghost legends, or particle physics your passion is where you will find your most unique and powerful work.
Make a list of all the things you know well and all the things you've done -- seriously! Mythology

Character Creation Tips
Note: I wrote this after reading a similar article in The Writer magazine about a year ago. Hope it's helpful!
Not all characters are created equal. Here are some steps to make yours superior.
1) Desire
Figure out what your character wants, needs, desires. A closer relationship with God? A place to belong? Just to survive? Figure it out. You cant move on to number 2 until you have.
2) Fear
Now that you know what your character most desires, you should be able to figure out what he/she most fears. Doing the wrong thing, being alone, death? They are the polar opposites of your characters desires.
3) History

Writing Tutorial - Dialogue
While some authors may talk about how their writing is all talent and a gift from The Powers That Be, the truth is anyone can do a great deal to improve their writing. One effective way is through working on your dialogue.
Fan fiction can be particularly bad about this, but God-awful dialogue can be found just about anywhere, from popular books to comics to television. Bad dialogue often happens when people lose sight of reality and get hung up in the information or message theyre trying to get their character to communicate. Good dialogue is a natural reflection of the characters and the world, is easy on the ears/eyes and moves the p

For our last exercise ever in Creative Writing she gave us some pictures and told us to write a poem about them. Mine is not so much a poem as prose because I saw a story and I refused to change that story for poetry.
In order to understand the key elements of what i'm getting at (and please give me your own views on the subject matter) you need to look at the picture very carefully. Look at the men's body language and what one of them holds in his hand. Look at the woman's face, the men's clothes and at the guitar. This is the picture:
